What landscapers do
Landscapers design, build, and maintain outdoor spaces — planting, lawns, hardscape (patios, walls, walkways), irrigation, and drainage. In California, landscape construction is a licensed specialty trade; routine gardening and maintenance under $1,000 may not require a license.
What are you working on?
Yard makeover & hardscape
Patios, walls, and walkways that reshape the space.
Irrigation & drainage
Efficient watering and fixing water that pools or runs the wrong way.
Curb appeal before selling
Clean, planted, well-kept grounds that help a home show.
How to vet a landscaper
- Verify the C-27 landscaping license on the CSLB website for any construction work.
- Confirm general liability insurance (and workers’ comp for crews).
- Get a written plan with a plant and materials list.
- Ask how they handle irrigation and drainage.
- Check references and a portfolio of comparable projects.
California licensing for landscapers
Landscape construction in California is a Class C-27 specialty license, required for any job worth $1,000 or more (labor + materials). Routine gardening or maintenance under that threshold may be exempt.
A written contract is required for home-improvement work over $500, and the down payment is capped at $1,000 or 10% of the price, whichever is less. Verify license status on the CSLB website.
What “Agent Recommended” means here
On Wiserlist, an agent recommendation is context, not a paid badge. It means a real estate agent has told us they’ve worked with this pro and would send their own clients — and we show who said it and how they’ve worked together. Treat it as one signal alongside experience, insurance, and reviews.
