What roofers do
Roofers install, repair, and replace roofing systems — asphalt shingle, tile, and flat/membrane roofs — and diagnose leaks and storm- or age-related damage. In California, roofing is a licensed specialty trade.

Fast diagnosis and repair before water damage spreads.

How to vet a roofer
- Verify the C-39 roofing license on the CSLB website — active and in the right classification.
- Confirm general liability insurance, and workers’ compensation if they have a crew.
- Get a written, itemized scope and clear warranty terms.
- Ask for recent local references and photos of comparable jobs.
- Be wary of storm-chasers and large upfront deposits.
California licensing for roofers
Roofing in California is a Class C-39 specialty license. Any job worth $1,000 or more (labor + materials) must be done by a CSLB-licensed contractor.
California requires a written contract for home-improvement work over $500, and limits the down payment to $1,000 or 10% of the price, whichever is less. You can check any license’s status and bond on the CSLB website.
What “Agent Recommended” means here
On Wiserlist, an agent recommendation is context, not a paid badge. It means a real estate agent has told us they’ve worked with this pro and would send their own clients — and we show who said it and how they’ve worked together. Treat it as one signal alongside license status, insurance, and reviews.
